Viktor Gyökeres Steps Up For Arsenal In Prague Victory
Viktor Gyökeres scored and set up another as Arsenal beat Slavia Prague 2-1 in the Champions League.

Gyökeres shines in Prague
Viktor Gyökeres took full advantage of his opportunity on Wednesday night, helping Arsenal secure a 2-1 victory over Slavia Prague in the Champions League. The Sweden striker set up Noni Madueke for the opening goal before scoring a stylish second in the Czech capital.
It was one of his best displays since joining Arsenal in July 2025. The 28 year old has spent much of the season playing second fiddle to Kai Havertz. Before this match, his only goal for the club had come in a Carabao Cup penalty shootout defeat at Fleetwood last month.
Arteta praises striker impact
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was pleased with the display and admitted the forward needed a night like this. Arteta pointed out how well Gyökeres read the match and attacked open spaces against a team marking man to man in midfield.
"I thought he was really good," Arteta said. "It was a game we believed would be really good for him, for the demands the opponent puts in and the spaces he could use."
Arteta added that players need to show what they can produce whenever they get an opportunity. Gyökeres did that in Prague. Despite a lack of minutes on the pitch, he has now contributed to five goals in his last five matches.
"I feel very good," Gyökeres told the club website. "Obviously, I'm happy with the win and to contribute to the two goals."
Clinging on for points
The evening was not completely smooth for the visitors. Slavia Prague pulled a goal back through Wiktor Nowak in the 90th minute, leaving Arsenal clinging on through stoppage time.
Gyökeres admitted that the finish was tense after a strong start. Even so, the result moved Arsenal up to third place in the Champions League table. The forward said the squad is in a good position, while remaining clear on what needs to be improved.
What it means for the next game
The Premier League leaders will look to build on this momentum as they return to domestic action.
