The Frightening Return

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has opened up about the fear he felt when returning to Old Trafford following his brain haemorrhage in 2018.

The legendary manager, who is now 84, suffered the brain haemorrhage when he was 76. He made his return to the stadium four months later to watch United play Wolves in a Premier League match.

Despite his tough reputation, Ferguson admitted he was deeply anxious about the moment. "I was terrified actually," he said. "I wish I could say I was comfortable. I wasn't."

An Emotional Recovery

When Ferguson and his late wife Cathy took their seats in the directors box, they received a standing ovation from the crowd. It was an emotional moment for the family. Ferguson recalled that his wife was nearly crying and told him how fantastic the reception was.

The recovery process was a massive challenge for the Scotsman, who had retired as manager five years before his illness. Right after his surgery, he was completely unable to speak.

"I had lost my voice. I couldn't speak," Ferguson said. "That was a frightening moment. I remember my grandsons coming to see me and I had lost my voice."

He managed to regain his speech with the help of a therapist who asked him to write down the names of birds, animals, and rivers. Today, Ferguson says he is feeling quite good despite some small injuries. He has a new book coming out called 'Games of My Life' which details 21 matches that defined his career. During his 26 years in charge of United, he won 36 major trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, five FA Cups, four League Cups and the European Cup Winners' Cup.
