A Tough Night at Clemson

Miami handed Clemson a heavy defeat on Saturday night, beating the Tigers 41-13. The loss was the second worst home defeat for Clemson under head coach Dabo Swinney. The only worse home loss under Swinney happened back in 2013, when Florida State beat the Tigers 51-14.

Clemson has struggled against top opposition this year. The Tigers have played two games against Top 25 opponents, the opener against LSU and this game against Miami, and they lost both in blowout fashion.

Despite the lopsided final score, Swinney defended his team's effort. He pointed to missed chances in the red zone that kept Clemson from making the game much closer.

Missed Opportunities

Clemson had chances to change the momentum of the game. Late in the second quarter, the Tigers faced a third and 1 situation at the Miami 2 yard line. A false start penalty backed them up, and they had to settle for a field goal.

Another big moment came in the third quarter. Clemson was trailing 17-6 and decided to go for it on a fourth and 2 from the Miami 18 yard line. Miami stopped a direct snap to running back Gideon Davidson.

Following that stop, the Hurricanes put together a 14 play drive that took nearly eight minutes off the clock. Miami scored a touchdown at the end of that drive to put the game away.

Swinney Looks Ahead

Even with the tough loss, Swinney is not giving up on the season. He said his players are gaining experience and growing up.

"The season ain't over," Swinney said. He added that his team is a work in progress but he absolutely believes they can still compete for an ACC title.

Swinney acknowledged that Miami is a very good team that could win it all. Clemson is now 2-1 in ACC play, and the coach wants his players to keep battling and getting better every week.

Miami Controls Its Destiny

For Miami head coach Mario Cristobal, the victory was a major statement. Four years ago, the Hurricanes suffered a 40-10 loss at Clemson. Cristobal recalled that 2022 game, saying they got their faces kicked in.

This time, the outcome was completely different. The win keeps Miami undefeated in ACC play. They are currently the only top 10 team in the conference without a league loss.

With the win, Miami now controls its own destiny in the conference race. Clemson, on the other hand, must find a way to rebuild and bounce back.
