Caleb Williams Will Keep Wearing Fined Cleats to Stay Healthy
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams plans to keep wearing fined cleats despite an $11,941 penalty from the NFL.

Caleb Williams Stands by Cleat Choice
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams says he will keep wearing his Caddix cleats, even after receiving an $11,941 fine from the NFL. The league issued the penalty for a uniform violation during Chicago's Week 6 win at Atlanta because the brand logo was visible. NFL rules state that players who wear brands other than Nike, Adidas, or Under Armour must cover up the logos.
Williams stated on Wednesday that he does not plan to black out or cover the logo when Chicago plays at Seattle on Nov. 2. He has already appealed the fine from the Atlanta game. It remains unclear if he will get another fine for wearing them during last Thursday's win against the Patriots. Williams said he is focused on his health and staying on the field for his teammates.
Injury Prevention and Outside Support
Williams missed Weeks 3 through 5 with a hamstring injury. After returning against Atlanta and New England, he became the first Bears quarterback since Mitchell Trubisky in 2018 to post back to back 300 yard passing games. Williams has worn Caddix cleats during the preseason and early regular season, noting that they help reduce strain on his joints, feet, and knees.
Around 40 NFL players currently wear Caddix shoes, which feature technology designed to reduce torque transmitted through knees and ankles. Williams does not have a contract with the company, but founder Jack Rasmussen and veteran quarterback Joe Flacco both promised to pay Williams' fines if his appeal is denied. Flacco said he has worn the cleats for years and wants to support Williams for choosing equipment that keeps him safe. Caddix has a hearing with the NFL set for Nov. 10.
