Clint Hurdle Leaves Colorado Rockies After More Than Two Decades
Clint Hurdle has announced his departure from the Colorado Rockies after spending over 20 seasons with the franchise in various roles.

A Long History Comes to an End
Clint Hurdle has officially said goodbye to the Colorado Rockies organization. The 69 year old baseball figure announced his departure on Friday through a message posted to X. His exit marks the end of a relationship that spanned over 20 seasons across two separate stints.
Hurdle had been serving as a special assistant to the general manager since 2022 after returning to the front office in December 2021. He took on extra responsibilities as a hitting instructor after the team fired Hensley Meulens in 2025. In his statement, Hurdle expressed appreciation for the opportunity to coach, manage, and mentor young players for the franchise.
Building the Rockies Legacy
Hurdle originally joined the organization in 1994 as a minor league hitting coach, a role he held through 1996. He then served as the big league hitting coach from 1997 to 2002 under managers Don Baylor, Jim Leyland, and Buddy Bell.
In 2002, Hurdle took over as manager after replacing Bell. He remained in the dugout until May 2009, finishing his managerial run with a record of 534 wins and 625 losses. His crowning achievement with Colorado came in 2007, when he led the franchise to its only National League pennant during the famous Rocktober period.
What Lies Ahead for Hurdle
After leaving Colorado in 2009, Hurdle worked with the Texas Rangers. He then served as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2011 to 2019 before returning to the Rockies front office.
Hurdle made it clear that he is not retiring from baseball just yet. He explained that he is simply recalculating his path both personally and professionally. He credited team owner Dick Monfort for treating him like family over the years. Hurdle also emphasized that the people in the organization are what he will hold onto most, calling the people the real foundation of the club.
