Postava Shines in Debut

Michal Postava made his first career NHL start on Monday night, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-3 shootout win over the Edmonton Oilers. The 24 year old undrafted netminder from Czechia turned away 25 shots in regulation and made three saves in the shootout.

Postava was appearing in his second career game after replacing John Gibson in the third period of a 5-2 victory against Vancouver last Thursday. One of his shootout stops came against Edmonton star Connor McDavid. Postava told Detroit SportsNet that it was a big win for him and that he was happy to help his teammates.

Late Goal Forces Shootout

Detroit fell behind three times during the game in Edmonton, Alberta, but managed to tie the score each time. The third equalizer came with 1:17 remaining in the third period. Detroit pulled Postava for an extra attacker, and a bouncing puck came to Dylan Larkin in front of the net. Larkin shoveled it in for his second goal of the season.

Viktor Arvidsson and Emmitt Finnie scored Detroit's other goals in regulation. Lucas Raymond recorded two assists in regulation and then scored the only goal of the shootout. The Red Wings ended their four game road trip with a 2-1-1 record. Vasily Podkolzin, Isaac Howard, and Colton Dach scored for the Oilers, who have lost two straight games and lost forward Zach Hyman to what appeared to be a concussion.

McDavid Keeps Streak Going

Despite the Edmonton loss, Connor McDavid had an assist to extend his season opening points streak to 12 games. He leads the league with 34 points and set an Oilers franchise record for most points before November 1.

McDavid also matched the longest season opening assist streak in NHL history. He shares the mark with Sebastian Aho, Ken Linseman, and Wayne Gretzky.
