Rice sets up winning goal at Anfield

Declan Rice has set up the most goals in the Premier League this season. The midfielder moved to the top of the assist rankings after setting up Arsenal's winning goal against Liverpool at Anfield. The result gave Arsenal their first victory at Anfield in 14 years.

Kai Havertz scored the winning goal from a low cross delivered by Rice across the face of goal. With that finish, Havertz became the all time highest scoring German player in Premier League history. Rice now has five assists through nine Premier League matches.

Pascal Gross and Evanilson are just behind Rice with four assists each. A group of seven players follow with three assists. That group includes Maxim de Cuyper, João Pedro, Johan Manzambi, Mohammed Kudus, Daichi Kamada, Cody Gakpo, and Josko Gvardiol.

Open play success for the Gunners

Arsenal earned a reputation for set piece dominance last season when they scored 25 goals from set pieces during their title run. This season, however, their open play delivery has stood out. All five of Rice's assists have come from open play so far.

Rice has already equalled his assist total from the 2025 to 2026 season. Ezri Konsa scored against Everton, which marked the first time Arsenal scored from a set play in the Premier League this season.

Head coach Mikel Arteta spoke about their work with set piece coach Nico Jover in training. Arteta said, "You have to see them when we train the level of attention and how much they believe in what we do and what Nico does as well."

Arteta added that the squad felt disappointed not to score earlier from set pieces after generating many chances. He noted that Arsenal want to be the best in every phase of play.
