Early Goals in Istanbul

Fenerbahce missed out on securing their very first Champions League win of the season on Tuesday night after Slavia Prague produced a late comeback to draw 2-2. The home crowd in Istanbul saw a wild start to the match, with three separate goals scored inside the opening 15 minutes.

The Turkish side took early control of the contest when Oguz Aydin opened the scoring inside the first five minutes. Moments later, Mason Greenwood doubled the lead for Fenerbahce with a superb half volley. Slavia Prague did not stay down for long, as Lukas Provod hit back almost immediately for the visitors by scoring in the 15th minute of a frantic opening period.

Late Equaliser Denies Victory

Fenerbahce looked to be in control of the game as the clock ran down, but Slavia Prague found an answer in the final moments. Pavel Kacor matched Greenwood with a sensational strike in the 90th minute, snatching a point for his team right at the end.

That last minute goal meant Fenerbahce had to settle for a draw instead of their first European victory of the campaign. The strike from Greenwood was his seventh goal of the season. He signed for the Turkish club in the summer following a transfer from French side Marseille.

Recent Outings and History

This result comes after a difficult outing for Fenerbahce last week in Champions League action. The Turkish club was thumped 6-0 by Aston Villa in England. Greenwood received boos from the crowd during that match in what was a rare appearance back in England for the forward.

Greenwood last featured for Manchester United back in 2022. He was later arrested and charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour. The charges were formally dropped in February 2023 before his eventual move abroad.
