Former Boss Erik ten Hag Warns Manchester United Could Be Relegated
Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United could face relegation after a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea left them sitting in 17th place.

A real drop threat
Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes the club could face relegation this season. A 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge pushed United down to 17th place on Saturday.
The result has increased the pressure on head coach Michael Carrick. United remain outside the bottom three only because of their goal difference. The club has not experienced relegation since 1974.
Ten Hag defends his record
Ten Hag managed United from April 2022 until November 2024. He guided the team to third place in his first year, won the Carabao Cup in the 2022 to 2023 season, and won the FA Cup a year later. However, United fell to eighth place in the 2023 to 2024 season. He was dismissed with the team sitting in 14th place.
Now working as technical director for FC Twente, Ten Hag warned that any team can get stuck in a bad spell in England. He said that if a team ends up on the wrong side once and enters a vicious circle, it can become very difficult. He also defended his time at Old Trafford, noting that United reached Wembley six times and won two trophies after going six years without silverware.
Difficult games ahead
Ten Hag also commented on Cristiano Ronaldo, reflecting on issues regarding application and fitness during their time together at Old Trafford.
United now face a difficult path to climb away from danger. Their next two league matches are against Aston Villa and Liverpool.
