Giants Coach and Running Back Disagree With Helmet Penalty
New York Giants coach John Harbaugh and running back Cam Skattebo spoke out against a penalty called in their 27-21 win over Houston.

Penalty Shadowed Overtime Win
The New York Giants picked up a 27-21 overtime victory against the Houston Texans in East Rutherford, but a controversial call left running back Cam Skattebo and coach John Harbaugh unhappy.
During the first quarter, Skattebo ran for a gain of 7 yards. On the play, he collided with Houston safety M.J. Stewart, sending Stewart to the ground. Officials threw a flag on Skattebo for unnecessary roughness, citing impermissible helmet contact for lowering his head into the defender.
Skattebo Speaks Out on Fines and Flags
Skattebo finished the game with 124 rushing yards on 17 carries. It was his first career 100 yard rushing game and a personal high. Even with the strong performance, he expressed frustration over the call.
Skattebo pointed out that the league often shares videos of his physical running style on social media while penalizing him on the field. He stated that he intends to keep playing hard, even if it brings more flags or fines. Skattebo was previously fined $7,073 earlier this month for illegal helmet contact on a running play.
Harbaugh Defends Running Technique
Harbaugh argued with the linesman on the field during the broadcast and continued to defend Skattebo on Monday. He said it is impossible for a runner to stay low without their head dropping as well. Harbaugh insisted Skattebo leads with his shoulder rather than trying to use his helmet as a battering ram.
The strong game was a bounce back for Skattebo, a second year player out of Arizona State. He had seen his playing time fall to just six snaps and zero carries against the New Orleans Saints following fumbles late in a tie against the Washington Commanders. Reinstated as the starter, Skattebo delivered a big performance despite the early penalty flag.
