Former Heisman winner Robert Griffin III wants to coach Baylor after the school fired Dave Aranda.

Griffin Interested in Baylor Job
Robert Griffin III wants to be the next head coach at Baylor. The 36 year old former quarterback confirmed his interest on Monday after speaking with athletic director Doug McNamee.
Griffin is the only Heisman Trophy winner in school history, winning the award in 2011. He has no previous coaching experience and currently works as a broadcaster for Fox Sports. When asked about the opening, Griffin said he was 100 percent interested. He said if Baylor wants to get back to winning, they need people who know what it looks like to win at the school.
Coaching Change in Waco
Baylor fired head coach Dave Aranda on Sunday. Aranda went 40-40 over six and a half seasons with the team. Joe Klanderman was named interim coach for the remainder of the season.
The Bears are 4-3 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play this year. They lost 25-24 at Kansas on Saturday after a field goal was blocked in the final minute. That loss followed a 17-6 home defeat to TCU the previous week. Baylor is 26-31 overall since a 12 win season in 2021 that included a Big 12 title and Sugar Bowl victory.
Timeline and Background
McNamee released an open letter on Monday stating that the coaching search is underway. Due to the football calendar, a final hire is likely to happen in December. McNamee wrote that the program wants someone who will launch a generation of consistent winning while maintaining the university Christian mission.
During his Heisman season in 2011, Griffin led Baylor to a 10-3 record. He threw for 4,293 yards with 37 touchdowns and six interceptions while adding 699 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Washington picked him second overall in the 2012 draft, and he played seven NFL seasons, including time with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens.
