Houston Astros Name Randy Flores As New General Manager
The Houston Astros have hired former St. Louis Cardinals executive Randy Flores as their new general manager.

Astros Name Randy Flores General Manager
The Houston Astros officially completed their search for a new general manager on Friday night. The team announced the hiring of Randy Flores, bringing in an experienced front office executive to lead the baseball operations department.
Flores makes the move to Texas after a long period with the St. Louis Cardinals. His arrival fills a major vacancy for the franchise, giving the organisation clear leadership heading into the upcoming season.
Deep Front Office and Playing Experience
Flores brings more than ten years of experience from his time with St. Louis. He joined their front office and eventually worked his way up to assistant general manager, a position he occupied starting in 2018. During his decade plus with the Cardinals, he focused heavily on key areas like talent evaluation.
In addition to his administrative experience, Flores knows the game from the field level. He spent eight seasons playing in Major League Baseball as a left handed reliever. That background as a former big league pitcher gives him first hand knowledge of what players experience during a season.
Words from Astros Owner Jim Crane
Astros owner Jim Crane expressed strong confidence in the decision to hire Flores. He noted that the interview process made it clear Flores was the right fit to guide the front office.
"Randy has had a huge impact on the Cardinals over the last 10 seasons," Crane said.
Crane added that throughout the interview process, the Astros were thoroughly impressed with Flores and his background in scouting and player acquisition. He welcomed Flores and his family to the team, stating that everyone is ready to get to work on bringing another championship to Houston.
Replacing Dana Brown
The hire comes several months after the Astros made a change at the top of their management structure. The front office position opened up when Houston fired former general manager Dana Brown in August.
Brown had served as the general manager since January 26, 2023. By hiring Flores, the Astros end their search and secure a permanent replacement to guide player acquisition and roster decisions moving forward.
