Jared Young Carted Off After Collision in Mets Game
Mets first baseman Jared Young went to the hospital after colliding with pitcher Nolan McLean on Thursday.

Scary Collision at First Base
New York Mets first baseman Jared Young left Thursday night's game against Philadelphia on a cart following a dangerous collision in the sixth inning. Pitcher Nolan McLean accidentally struck Young on the head while both players converged on a slow grounder hit by Justin Crawford.
With Philadelphia leading 1-0, McLean broke toward first base on contact while Young initially moved back toward the bag. McLean paused for a moment. Young then reached for the ball with his right hand as he tried to keep his foot on the base. McLean resumed running and collided with Young's head, tripping over the first baseman as Crawford reached first. Young fell face first to the ground and remained motionless.
Immediate Reaction on the Field
Mets manager Andy Green and an athletic trainer rushed out from the dugout right away, and a cart was called to the field. McLean bent down with his hands on his knees as the rest of the Mets gathered near their injured teammate. Catcher Francisco Alvarez appeared to be praying, while Alec Bohm took a knee near third base as players from both dugouts looked on.
Young was immobilized on the cart before leaving the field. He gave a thumbs up to the crowd before the cart exited behind the left-center field fence. The Mets later announced that Young was taken to a hospital for further tests, adding that he maintained feeling in his extremities.
Young's First Full Campaign
The 31-year-old is in the middle of his first full big league season. Young has earned regular playing time at first base for New York, hitting .266 with nine home runs and 39 RBIs across 103 games. He had already missed six weeks of action this year because of a left knee injury.
