No Rush to Claim Titles
Jürgen Klopp is keeping his distance from the drama surrounding Manchester City. The Premier League announced that City was found guilty of 114 charges for breaking financial rules between 2009 and 2018. Klopp, who managed Liverpool starting in 2015, saw his time there overlap with this period.
Despite the news, Klopp is not expecting any quick changes. He said he would wait to see how things pan out before making any comments. He expects there will be an appeal, which he noted will take ages. He added that he is a long way from preparing himself for any potential sanctions.
Respect for Guardiola
Manchester City has denied all the charges and plans to appeal the verdict. While Klopp once joked about attending a parade if titles were stripped, his feelings have changed.
Klopp made it clear that his respect for Pep Guardiola and the football City played is far too great to say anything negative now. He praised how Guardiola's team brought football to life on the pitch and proved to be an opponent at the highest level.
Germany's Captaincy Mystery
Now leading the German national team, Klopp has other matters on his mind. He is preparing for his third match in charge as Germany faces Serbia in Munich. Klopp has a completely new squad to work with for this international window.
Regular captain Joshua Kimmich has left the camp after a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands and a loss to Greece. Klopp revealed that the player with the most international caps will lead the team onto the pitch. He also hinted that Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jonas Urbig will make his debut at the Allianz Arena, though Urbig will not wear the armband.
Tough Test Against Serbia
Germany is looking for a turnaround. The team is without a win in four matches, following a World Cup exit to Paraguay and a loss to Ecuador.
Serbia is also struggling, having lost recent Nations League games 2-1 to both the Netherlands and Greece. Klopp warned that Serbia will be a difficult opponent because of their experience and their tendency to sit deep. After this match, Germany will travel to play Greece on October 4.
