Monaco Star Advised to Forget Chelsea After Failed Deadline Day Move

Lamine Camara is better off at Monaco than Chelsea. That is the message from his teammate Denis Zakaria, who previously spent a difficult loan spell with the Premier League club.

Chelsea tried to sign Camara on transfer deadline day. A deal worth 47 million pounds was verbally agreed, but Monaco pulled the plug at the last minute.

Zakaria knows what it is like at Stamford Bridge. He made just seven league appearances during a loan spell from Juventus in the 2022-23 season. Speaking after Monaco's recent win, Zakaria shared the advice he gave to the young midfielder.

"Chelsea? I told him that it was good but that it is better here," Zakaria said. He praised Camara as a professional and said the failed move has given him even more strength.

Moving On

Camara, a 22-year-old Senegal international, is not letting the missed transfer distract him. He has been a key player in Monaco's strong start to the season.

"There was a possibility I could leave," Camara said earlier in September. "It didn't go through at the last minute and that's part of football. I've turned the page and am focusing on the season."

His focus is paying off on the pitch. Monaco secured a 2-1 win against Lens to keep them at the top of the Ligue 1 table. They currently lead the league by two points over Lyon and Paris FC. Under manager Filipe Luis, Monaco have won four of their first five games.

Blues Left Empty Handed

The sudden collapse of the deal left Chelsea officials furious. A source described Monaco's behavior as "extraordinary and deeply unprofessional."

The Premier League team wanted to strengthen their midfield. They sold Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for 125 million pounds on deadline day. They are also dealing with an injury to Moises Caicedo, who has played only 14 minutes so far this season.

Missing out on Camara leaves Chelsea short of options. Meanwhile, Monaco and Camara are flying high in France, showing no signs of regret.
