Oregon Wide Receiver Jeremiah McClellan Out Indefinitely With Broken Foot

Pregame Injury Sidelines Top Target

The Oregon Ducks have suffered a significant setback to their offense. Star wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan is out indefinitely after breaking his foot, head coach Dan Lanning announced on Monday.

The injury occurred under bizarre circumstances prior to Friday's game against Portland State. McClellan participated in pregame warmups in full pads before hurting his foot. He was later seen on the sideline wearing a protective boot and using crutches.

Lanning addressed the sudden loss of his junior wideout when speaking to reporters. "Kind of a weird deal," Lanning said. "Fortunately he's a tough guy."

Strong Start Cut Short

The injury pauses what had been a productive start to the year for McClellan. Through the first two games of the season, the junior led the No. 20 Ducks in receiving yards.

His biggest showing came during Oregon's season opener against Boise State. McClellan hauled in six passes for 151 yards and scored a touchdown in that contest. His absence leaves the Ducks looking for answers in their passing attack.

Injury List Grows for the Ducks

Injuries have created roster challenges for Oregon through the first three weeks. Two weeks ago, Lanning announced that offensive lineman Trent Ferguson would miss the remainder of the season because of a knee injury.

The receiving corps is also managing an undisclosed injury to star tight end Jamari Johnson, who sat out against Portland State. There is some optimism on that front, however. Lanning noted on Monday that he feels good about Johnson playing this coming weekend.

Big Ten Opener in Los Angeles

Oregon bounced back from an upset loss against Oklahoma State by defeating Portland State 84-0. Now, the Ducks turn their focus to starting Big Ten play on Saturday against No. 12 USC in Los Angeles.

Lanning highlighted the importance of the upcoming road matchup. "It's as intense as it gets, when you talk about two teams that are competitive, that want to be really good, that have great talent," Lanning said. "It means a ton to the fanbase. It's only grown. ... It means a lot to our team."
