Reese Dominates Again in Game 3
Angel Reese posted 21 points and 12 rebounds on Wednesday night, leading the Atlanta Dream to a 97-71 victory over the Golden State Valkyries. The win gives Atlanta a 2-1 lead in the WNBA Finals.
Rhyne Howard scored 16 points and Naz Hillmon added 15 for Atlanta. The Dream started fast, jumping to a 9-1 lead after five minutes while Golden State missed its first eight shots. Aminata Gueye scored the first basket for the Valkyries with 4:39 left in the opening period. Atlanta led 23-15 after the first quarter and held a 46-40 edge at halftime.
Third Quarter Run and a Packed Arena
The game was originally scheduled for Thursday at Gateway Center Arena, which seats 3,500. The league worked with the Atlanta Hawks to move the games to State Farm Arena so more than 17,000 fans could attend. Wednesday was sold out, with music stars like Ludacris in attendance. Game 4 on Saturday is also sold out at State Farm Arena.
Tied at 49 in the third quarter, Atlanta responded with eight straight points, including four from Reese. Golden State cut the deficit to 59-55 on a layup by Tiffany Hayes, but Atlanta answered by scoring 12 of the final 14 points in the quarter. Atlanta has dominated third quarters in this series, outscoring Golden State 63-35 across the three games. Gabby Williams scored 15 points and Hayes added 14 for Golden State.
