Thierno Barry Steps Up For Everton After Transfer Window Chaos

Barry Grabs the Winner Against Ipswich

Everton secured a 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town thanks to a quick reaction from Thierno Barry. Early in the match, defender James Tarkowski took a shot from distance that appeared to be heading wide. Barry adjusted his body and deflected the ball into the net with his upper thigh.

It was his second league goal of the season and his fifth in all competitions. The win extended Everton's unbeaten run and moved them into seventh place. Barry almost had a second goal later in the game, but his header from a Kieran Dewsbury-Hall corner was ruled out by VAR because Brennan Johnson was offside.

A Chaotic Transfer Window

Barry is currently Everton's only recognized centre forward. The club had a chaotic end to the transfer window, leaving manager David Moyes with very few options up front.

Everton tried to bring Richarlison back from Tottenham in a £35 million deal, but personal terms could not be agreed. Meanwhile, Beto was allowed to leave for Fiorentina. The club then agreed a £40 million deal with Monaco for Folarin Balogun, but a medical issue delayed things and the player eventually backed out. Late attempts to sign Joshua Zirkzee or Tammy Abraham also failed. This left Barry as the last man standing, a situation that worried many fans.

Proving the Doubters Wrong

Barry struggled at times last season after joining from Villarreal for £27 million, scoring just eight goals in 38 league matches. However, his work rate against Ipswich showed why he can lead the line.

The forward ran 11 kilometres and made 20 sprints during the match, more than any other player on the pitch. He continued to work hard deep into stoppage time to help secure the three points.

Moyes has previously praised Barry's physical traits. In January, Moyes praised the striker. "He's got a physicality, he's good in the air, he can run plenty, he helps us off the ball," Moyes said. With no other strikers available, Everton will need Barry to keep delivering.
