A Complete Reset at Valencia

Valencia has made a major move by dismissing both coach Carlos Corberan and chief executive officer Ron Gourlay. The decision came on Sunday following a terrible start to the season that has left the club winless and sitting at the bottom of LaLiga.

Pressure from fans had been building for weeks. A 1-0 defeat against Sevilla on Friday was the final straw. It was Valencia's fourth straight loss, leaving them with just one point from their first five games. Over this stretch, the team has managed to score only one goal while conceding 10.

From Extension to Exit

The sudden sackings represent a massive shift in direction. Corberan took charge in December 2024 and led the team to a 12th place finish in his first season, followed by a ninth place finish last season. His efforts earned him a contract extension until 2028 just this past July.

In total, Corberan won 28 and lost 26 of his 72 games at the helm. Now, he is gone, along with his entire coaching staff. Four other staff members working under Gourlay were also let go.

A club statement said, "This decision reflects the club's intention to begin a new phase for the running of the sporting structure and football operations."

The Interim Plan

This house cleaning comes shortly after Barcelona midfielder Rodri apologised for calling Valencia "very weak" during a 5-0 match last weekend.

For now, VCF Mestalla coach Oscar Sanchez will step in as interim manager of the first team. Additionally, Braulio Vazquez is returning to the club as the new sporting director, a position he previously held from 2010 to 2013.
