Brock Purdy put on a near-perfect display and Christian McCaffrey reached a career milestone as the San Francisco 49ers beat the Dolphins 35-13.
Purdy Leads the Way
The San Francisco 49ers are rolling after a dominant 35-13 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Quarterback Brock Purdy led the charge with a nearly flawless performance, completing 20 of his 22 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 30 yards and a score on the ground, finishing with a QBR of 99.7.
After an early drop, Purdy completed 18 consecutive passes. The streak only ended on an intentional grounding penalty late in the game. Linebacker Fred Warner was quick to praise his quarterback after the game, calling him the MVP. Warner said that Purdy is unbelievable and operates the offense like a point guard.
Making Franchise History
With the win, San Francisco improved to 2-0 on the year. Combined with their 27-7 win over the Los Angeles Rams in week one, the team has opened a season with back-to-back wins of 20 or more points for the first time in franchise history.
Under Purdy's direction, the team scored touchdowns on each of their first five offensive possessions. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the first time the franchise has achieved that feat in the past 45 seasons. Purdy admitted he was not focused on his completion streak during the game, stating that every play and every drive mattered to him.
McCaffrey Reaches 100 Touchdowns
Running back Christian McCaffrey also had a historic afternoon. He scored two 1-yard rushing touchdowns, which brought his career total to 100. McCaffrey scored 50 of those touchdowns with San Francisco and the other 50 with his former team, the Carolina Panthers.
This achievement puts him in elite company. McCaffrey joined Marshall Faulk and Randy Moss as the only players in league history to score 50 touchdowns with two different franchises. He reached the 100-touchdown mark in 114 games, making him the fourth-fastest player to do so. He beat out 49ers legend Jerry Rice, who took 115 games to hit the milestone. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk said he believes this is just the start of a Hall of Fame career for the running back.
