Charlotte Hornets Set to Retire Muggsy Bogues No. 1 Jersey
The Charlotte Hornets will retire Muggsy Bogues' No. 1 jersey on Feb. 11 to honor the franchise legend.

Honor for a franchise icon
The Charlotte Hornets are set to honor one of the most recognizable figures in team history. On Feb. 11, the franchise will officially retire the No. 1 jersey worn by Muggsy Bogues.
Bogues is famous for being the shortest player in NBA history, standing at 5 foot 3 inches tall. Despite his height, he proved to be a dominant presence on the floor and spent 10 of his 14 seasons in the NBA playing in Charlotte.
Franchise leader across major statistical categories
Bogues first arrived in Charlotte through the 1988 expansion draft. Over his decade with the team from 1988 to 1998, he built a legacy that still stands at the top of the record books today.
The 61 year old is the franchise leader in assists, steals, and total minutes played. Beyond his playing days, Bogues has spent more than 20 years connected to the team as both a player and a team ambassador.
Joining an exclusive group of Charlotte legends
The decision to raise the No. 1 jersey was made by team owners Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin. Their goal is to maintain strong connectivity between the current organization and its historical figures.
With this honor, Bogues becomes only the third player in team history to have his jersey retired by Charlotte. He joins Bobby Phills, whose No. 13 was retired, and Dell Curry, whose No. 30 was retired by the team.
