The Washington Commanders do not have a timeline yet for when quarterback Jayden Daniels will return to the field. Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow during Sunday's game.

Commanders coach Dan Quinn announced on Monday that Daniels had an MRI earlier in the day. The quarterback will spend the next two days consulting with specialists to get a clearer picture of the damage.

The team plans to put together a recovery and return plan after they get feedback from those medical experts. Right now, the franchise is being careful and waiting for all the information before making any major decisions.

Marcus Mariota Steps In as Starter

With Daniels out of action, the Commanders are turning to backup Marcus Mariota. He will start at quarterback this Sunday.

It will be a tough challenge for Mariota and the Washington offense. They are set to face the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Mariota will have to lead the team as they try to bounce back from their recent defeat.

A Familiar Injury for the Quarterback

This is the second year in a row that Daniels has dislocated his left elbow. It is the elbow on his non-throwing arm, but it still presents a major setback.

The injury happened on the final play of the first half during Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Daniels was trying to brace himself as he fell, throwing a wild, incomplete pass as time ran out. His left elbow appeared to bend the wrong way as he hit the ground.

A very similar situation happened to the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner last season. On November 2, he dislocated the same elbow during a blowout loss to Seattle when he used his arm to brace a fall.

During that previous injury, Daniels missed almost the entire second half of the season. He was sidelined for four weeks before he finally returned to play against the Minnesota Vikings on December 7. The Commanders are hoping for a quicker recovery this time, but they must wait for the specialists to give their final evaluation.
