Drinkwitz Slams Rivalry Narrative

Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz did not hold back after his team beat Kansas 38-21. He criticized the Jayhawks for using the historical division of the Border War rivalry to hype up the game.

The rivalry dates back to pre-Civil War conflicts over slavery along the state line. Kansas released a pregame video that portrayed Missouri as villains. It framed the matchup as a right versus wrong battle.

Drinkwitz called the framing embarrassing. "I'm just glad that this whole right versus wrong bullcrap that was started just got settled," Drinkwitz said. He added that the country needs unity and that this is just a football game.

Tension Lingers After the Whistle

The Missouri coach admitted he tried to score in the final seconds of the game to embarrass Kansas. He then took his complaints to social media after his press conference, calling the Jayhawks weird on X.

Drinkwitz said he does not care if the rivalry continues. He said that if they want to make it deeper than football, they left Kansas bleeding again. The two teams are not scheduled to play each other again until 2031 and 2032.

Kansas coach Lance Leipold took a different view of the situation. He called it a special game and a good rivalry, despite the disappointing loss for his team.
