Enzo Maresca Backs Donnarumma Despite Recent Manchester City Errors
Enzo Maresca has backed Gianluigi Donnarumma after recent errors, confirming the goalkeeper recognises his mistakes.

Maresca keeps faith in Donnarumma
Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has reiterated his support for Gianluigi Donnarumma despite recent mistakes by the goalkeeper. The 27 year old Italian has faced growing questions over his patchy form this season, but his manager gave no indication that he is ready to replace him in goal.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Maresca explained that Donnarumma is aware of his errors. Maresca noted that overall the former AC Milan keeper is doing well and remains quite relaxed, adding that it is just a matter of balance to try to avoid mistakes while continuing to do the right things.
Costly errors in European win
The goalkeeper's recent display against RB Leipzig highlighted some of his current struggles. In City's 3-2 victory over the German team on Wednesday, Donnarumma was at fault for Leipzig's second goal when he let a tame effort from Ridle Baku sneak in at his near post.
Later in the match, he was almost caught out again when a second half free kick looped over his head and struck the crossbar. Maresca acknowledged that while those errors were avoidable, Donnarumma also produced some good saves to help secure the win.
Simple communication with the keeper
Maresca explained that managing Donnarumma is simple because the goalkeeper immediately recognises when he has done something incorrect. The manager said he spoke with the player, but noted that with certain players you do not need to go too deep and simple eye contact is enough.
The only other selection option for the City boss is backup keeper Gerónimo Rulli. The summer arrival from Marseilles has made just two appearances in the Carabao Cup this season. Donnarumma is expected to keep the gloves for the trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
