Jared Banner Vows to Rebuild Baltimore Orioles as New General Manager
Jared Banner is the new general manager of the Baltimore Orioles, promising to turn things around after two straight losing seasons.

A New Leader in Baltimore
The Baltimore Orioles introduced Jared Banner as their new general manager on Tuesday. Banner joins the team from the Chicago Cubs, where he served as an assistant general manager.
He steps into the role during a tough stretch for the franchise. Baltimore won the American League East in 2023 and reached the playoffs as a wild card team the following year. However, back to back losing seasons have placed pressure on the front office. Banner addressed fans directly at his introductory news conference, acknowledging their frustration and stating that the team shares those feelings. He promised that the organization is committed to building a winner in Baltimore.
Dividing the Front Office Roles
Banner will work alongside Mike Elias, who was hired as general manager eight years ago and became team president last year. Elias noted that taking the president title allowed the team to bring in a talented leader from another franchise.
The two executives will run the team together with a clear split in duties. Banner will oversee internal players, internal coaches, player development, performance, and health care. Elias will focus on scouting, player acquisition, and contracts across amateur, professional, and international markets.
Fixing Player Development
The front office faces a tough situation after trading catcher Adley Rutschman, who was once a cornerstone of the rebuild. The team has also seen young talents like Gunnar Henderson, Colton Cowser, and Jackson Holliday struggle during recent years.
Banner plans to challenge all current processes and work through tough adjustments. His philosophy for player development centers on making practice feel more like real games, helping players adjust when they get into live action.
Connecting with Franchise Legends
During his press conference, Banner called Elias one of the most talented executives in baseball. He also highlighted his connections to team legends. Cal Ripken Jr., who is part of the ownership group, has a lunch scheduled with the new general manager.
Banner also reached out to Jim Palmer. Palmer recently noted on a podcast that he had sent advice about Cowser to manager Craig Albernaz without receiving a reply. Banner made sure to text Palmer back right away.
