A Familiar Injury Blow

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is facing another spell on the sidelines. The young quarterback suffered a dislocated left elbow on the final play of the first half against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

This is the same injury that disrupted his season last year. In 2025, Daniels missed 10 games with three different injuries, including a Week 9 elbow dislocation. He returned in Week 14 but reinjured the elbow and missed the final four games of the year.

Daniels will visit specialists on Tuesday and Wednesday to find the best path forward. Head coach Dan Quinn noted that surgery was not discussed as of Monday, but experts will decide if he needs a procedure to tighten his ligaments or if rest and rehab will work.

Commanders Face Steep Climb

The injury leaves Washington in a very difficult spot. The team is already 0-2 this season and has lost 12 of its last 14 games dating back to last year. Next up is a tough home opener against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota will start against Seattle. The challenge is made harder by injuries on the offensive line. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil is already out, and right guard Sam Cosmi is now in concussion protocol.

"0-2 is not where we wanted to be, that's for sure," Quinn said. "But we also are resolute that that's not where we're going to be staying."

Durability Questions Arise

Daniels has shown immense talent when healthy, but his ability to stay on the field is a growing concern. He has finished only four games since the start of last season and has left four others early. Along with his elbow issues, he has missed games with knee and hamstring injuries.

The quarterback is known for his incredible work ethic, often arriving at the facility by 5:30 a.m. and organizing extra film sessions. However, his physical limits are being tested. He has now dislocated his left elbow twice in his last four games.

Without him, Washington must fix a defense that has allowed seven touchdowns in two games and has not forced a single turnover this season. If they cannot turn things around quickly, another season could slip away.
