Larry Csonka Celebrates Unbeaten Dolphins Record After Vikings Loss
The Minnesota Vikings lost 19-15 to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, leaving the 1972 Miami Dolphins as the NFL's only undefeated team once again.

The Last Unbeaten Team Falls
The Minnesota Vikings fell to the Detroit Lions 19-15 on Sunday. Minnesota entered Week 8 with a 6-0 record as the last unbeaten team in the NFL. That loss guaranteed that another league season will pass without an undefeated team.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Csonka was quick to celebrate the result. Csonka played fullback for the 1972 Miami Dolphins. That team remains the only one in the Super Bowl era, which began in 1966, to complete an entire regular season and postseason without a single loss.
Csonka Celebrates Social Media Style
Csonka commemorated the historic achievement on social media. He posted an image of himself raising a glass with a cigar in hand while showing off his Super Bowl ring. Csonka shared a similar photograph in 2024 after the Kansas City Chiefs lost in Week 11 to end their own bid for a perfect season.
Csonka played a massive part in Miami's undefeated campaign back in 1972. He led the Dolphins in rushing with 1,117 yards during the regular season and scored six touchdowns. That touchdown total was the second highest on the team. In Super Bowl VII, Csonka posted 119 rushing yards, which included a 49 yard scamper.
A Streak That Continues
Miami went 17-0 in that 1972 campaign on their way to winning Super Bowl VII. Their record has now stood alone for 54 years.
The closest any franchise came to breaking the record happened during the 2007 season. The New England Patriots reached Super Bowl XLII with an 18-0 record, but they were upset by the New York Giants. For now, Miami's streak remains untouched, and Csonka made sure everyone remembered it.
