Setting the Standard

LSU looked like the contender fans anticipated before the season began. Coach Lane Kiffin took his squad on the road and earned a 38-17 win against Auburn on Saturday. Following back to back wins over Mississippi State and Auburn, Kiffin stated that this display was what the group was supposed to look like when it was built.

The victory was the first SEC road win of the year for LSU. It also ended an eight game losing streak in conference road matchups. LSU gained 552 total yards on the day and converted three of their four attempts on fourth down.

Leavitt and Harris Lead the Attack

Quarterback Sam Leavitt delivered a stellar outing. The Arizona State transfer completed 32 of 45 passes for 387 yards and three touchdowns. He also contributed on the ground, running for 54 yards and a score. Kiffin noted that Leavitt has been off the charts efficient over the past two games.

Leavitt worked closely with transfer receiver Jackson Harris, who caught nine passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns. Leavitt praised Harris for having great feel and knowing how to find space. LSU also welcomed back tight end Trey'Dez Green after he missed three games with an injury. Green recorded 50 yards and a touchdown. Kiffin explained that having Green on the field made things feel different, noting that the passing attack is coming together after Leavitt missed all of spring practice.

Big Test Ahead After the Bye

Kiffin credited offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. and Leavitt for getting on the same page. Kiffin noted that both men have done a great job working through checks and getting in and out of plays quickly.

LSU now heads into a bye week to rest and recuperate. Kiffin hopes injured linebacker Whit Weeks can return soon so the roster can be at full strength.

The schedule will be demanding after the break. LSU faces Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee in its next three matchups. When asked what it will take to win out and reach the College Football Playoff, Kiffin stated his message is simply one game at a time. He added that when LSU has its players and avoids mistakes, the team is hard to beat.
