Julian Alvarez Apologizes to Atletico Madrid Fans After Winner
Julian Alvarez said sorry to Atletico Madrid fans for trying to join Barcelona after scoring the winner against Deportivo.

A Goal and an Apology
Julian Alvarez scored the only goal in the 48th minute to give Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win over Deportivo A Coruna on Saturday. The victory leaves Diego Simeone's side just two points behind leaders Barcelona ahead of El Clasico at Camp Nou.
After the match, Alvarez used his comments to apologize to Atletico supporters. The Argentina forward had tried to force a transfer to Barcelona during the World Cup, which sparked anger among the club's fan base.
Breaking the Drought
Saturday's goal was Alvarez's first in LaLiga for eight months, and his first league goal in front of the home crowd since November 2025. Having struggled through injuries and booing at the Metropolitano, he has now scored twice in four days to end a six month goal drought.
"I want to apologize to our fans for my words during the World Cup," Alvarez told Movistar. "It was a mistake in terms of how I expressed myself and the timing. I understand the fans anger especially given how they have supported me since I arrived."
Alvarez explained that he is feeling better physically and that feeling good in life shows on the pitch. While many supporters cheered his goal, some fans continued to voice disapproval. Simeone stood by his player, noting that apologizing is never easy. The manager added that he was delighted for the forward and stressed that Atletico need Alvarez at his best to reach the heights the fans dream of.
