Muñoz Locked In for Another Season

The Seattle Mariners made major roster moves on Thursday, picking up the 9 million dollar contract option for reliever Andrés Muñoz. The decision stops the 27 year old right hander from entering free agency.

Muñoz agreed to a four year, 7.5 million dollar deal in December 2021 that included three club options. He earned 7 million dollars this past year under his first option. An All Star in 2024 and 2025, he posted a 5-6 record with a career worst 4.24 ERA, 28 saves in 38 chances, and 89 strikeouts across 57 and a third innings.

Seattle still holds a 10 million dollar option on Muñoz for 2028. That option can grow by 250,000 dollars each for reaching 20, 30, 40, and 45 games finished.

Robles Leaves After Option Declined

Seattle chose a different path with outfielder Victor Robles, declining his 9 million dollar option. The 29 year old is now free to sign with any team.

Robles receives a 500,000 dollar buyout to finish his two year, 9.75 million dollar contract. He hit .256 with no home runs, nine RBI, and 10 stolen bases in 65 games this season.

Injuries limited his playing time. He was sidelined between April 6 and May 22 by a right pectoral muscle strain. Robles was also limited to 32 games in 2025 because of a dislocated left shoulder.

Miller Remains Under Club Control

Right hander Bryce Miller had his 6,075,000 dollar option declined by Seattle. The 28 year old gets a 15,000 dollar buyout as part of a one year contract that guaranteed 2,452,500 dollars.

Despite the declined option, Miller is not entering free agency. He remains under club control and is eligible for salary arbitration this offseason.

Miller went 4-10 with a 4.17 ERA in 21 starts and one relief appearance. His Mariners season debut was delayed until May 13 because of a strained left oblique.

Four Other Mariners Hit Open Market

Four other Mariners officially became free agents on Thursday. Outfielders Randy Arozarena and Taylor Ward, shortstop J.P. Crawford, and left hander Hoby Milner all hit the open market.

The team now faces key decisions as it looks to rebuild roster depth ahead of the upcoming season.
