A Blockbuster Deal That Fell Apart

The Los Angeles Rams shook up the league this summer by trading for Myles Garrett. But before that blockbuster move, they wanted Maxx Crosby instead.

The Las Vegas Raiders had originally agreed to trade Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens. That massive deal would have sent two first round draft picks back to Las Vegas. However, the trade fell through because Baltimore was not comfortable with Crosby's surgically repaired knee.

Once the Ravens deal collapsed, the Rams pushed hard to acquire Crosby. Other teams like the Eagles, Cowboys, and 49ers monitored the situation, but the Rams made the strongest push to get a deal done.

Staying in Las Vegas

Crosby had no interest in leaving Las Vegas after the Baltimore trade failed. The five time Pro Bowler made it clear to the Raiders and other interested teams that he wanted to stay. He let his own organization know his feelings directly.

Crosby responded to the failed trade by saying, "I'm a Raider. I'm back. Run that." He delivered a similar message to the Rams and other teams that wanted him.

Other teams hoped to acquire Crosby for cheap. One source noted that teams wanted "pennies on the dollars," which was a non starter for Las Vegas. Crosby's knee has reportedly had no issues since, and he is said to be in excellent health.

Once Crosby made it clear he would not be traded, the talks were over. The Raiders built a much more talented roster by spending hundreds of millions of dollars in free agency. The Rams eventually turned their attention to Garrett instead.
