Michael Carrick Under Pressure as Ten Man Man United Fall to Chelsea
Manchester United extended their winless run to nine games after a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Troubles Continue for Carrick
Michael Carrick is facing even more pressure after Manchester United fell 2-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The result leaves United with seven points from their first nine matches, raising fears of a potential relegation battle.
The defeat extends United's winless run across all competitions to nine games. Carrick kept his job after a 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth last weekend, but his team struggled again in west London. Bruno Fernandes returned to the starting lineup after being dropped previously for criticising tactics following a defeat at Como.
Red Card and Second Half Collapse
United matched Xabi Alonso's side during an open first half. Offside flags denied goals to both Matheus Cunha and Estêvão before the break. Chelsea fielded their youngest starting XI for a Premier League match since May 2025, with an average age of 23 years and 89 days.
Chelsea broke the deadlock five minutes after the interval when Morgan Rogers dribbled through the defence and lifted his finish over Senne Lammens. Things got worse for United when Lisandro Martínez was sent off after a VAR review spotted an elbow on Wesley Fofana during a corner. Martínez walked straight down the tunnel without speaking to his manager.
Cole Palmer doubled the lead from the penalty spot, though Lammens got two hands to the ball before it squirmed in off the post. Bryan Mbeumo hit the bar late on after Chelsea keeper Mike Penders tipped his shot, while Estêvão had another effort ruled out for offside. United have only gone ten games without a win twice in their history, in 1977 and 1961.
