Simmons Secures Future Deal

Missouri quarterback Austin Simmons has agreed to a deal to stay with the Tigers for the 2027 season. The move gives Missouri a chance to build on their current momentum. However, the agreement does not guarantee he will return for his final year of college eligibility.

Simmons is currently listed as the fifth best quarterback and twelfth overall player on draft insider Mel Kiper Jr.'s latest board. He has generated recent interest in professional scouting circles during his first full season as a starter and could still choose to enter the NFL draft.

Breakout Year in Columbia

The left handed passer, who turns 21 on Sunday, has posted strong numbers this season. He ranks third in the SEC with 16 touchdown passes against just two interceptions on 240 attempts. He is also fourth in the conference averaging 244 passing yards per game.

Simmons has guided Missouri to a 6-2 record and the number 18 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings. He has thrived under head coach Eliah Drinkwitz, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, and quarterbacks coach Garrett Riley. A majority of Missouri's top skill players also have extra eligibility remaining.

From Ole Miss to Missouri

Before coming to Missouri, Simmons earned the starting job at Ole Miss in 2025, winning two games before injuring his ankle against Kentucky. Division II transfer Trinidad Chambliss took over and led Ole Miss on a playoff run, keeping the job. That prompted Simmons to move to Missouri.

His former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, now at LSU, praised him earlier this year, saying, "I think Austin is a first round draft pick. I've said that the whole time through." Simmons also played one season of college baseball at Ole Miss, where coach Mike Bianco noted he would have been a high draft pick in baseball had he stuck with the sport.
