Curry Agrees to New Deal

Stephen Curry has agreed to a new contract extension. The Golden State Warriors star will sign a two year deal worth 116 million dollars. This agreement keeps the superstar guard with the franchise. The extension also includes a player option for the 2028 to 2029 season.

Curry was entering the final year of his previous contract before this deal was reached. That expiring deal is worth 62.6 million dollars. This new agreement adds two more years to his stay with the franchise.

Evaluating the Options

Curry officially became eligible to sign an extension on August 29. Under the rules, he was eligible for an extension of up to two years and 136.7 million dollars. This would have been added to his current expiring contract.

As soon as he became eligible, the Warriors front office presented him with multiple choices. Team sources indicated that the franchise gave Curry a menu of options to look over immediately.

One option was to sign for the maximum amount of money. Another option was to take slightly smaller pay cuts. The final option was to wait and make a decision at a later date. Waiting would have allowed the front office to see what they could eventually generate with extra flexibility.

Curry did not rush into a decision. He spent nearly a month contemplating these choices. After contemplating the choices for nearly a month, he chose to reach an agreement with the Warriors.

Preparing for the Season

The timing of the agreement is perfect for the team. The Warriors are scheduled to begin their official team practices next week. The team will travel to Hawaii to start their training camp.

Once practice concludes, the team will prepare for the upcoming regular season. The Warriors will open their official schedule on October 21. For their first game of the season, they will travel to Los Angeles to play against the Lakers.
