Washington State Star Tony Freeman Out For Season With Torn ACL
Washington State receiver and return specialist Tony Freeman will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL in the opening game.

A Major Loss for the Offense
Washington State has suffered a major blow early in the college football season. Wide receiver Tony Freeman is out for the rest of the year after tearing his ACL.
Head coach Kirby Moore confirmed the news on Monday. Freeman suffered the injury during the Cougars season opening loss against Washington. He is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair the knee.
"We're all going to be there to support Tony through this," Moore said. The coach added that he believes Freeman has the potential to return to the Cougars for another season under the new 5 for 5 rule.
Replacing Freeman's Production
Freeman was expected to be a massive part of the Cougars plans this year. He entered the season as the team's top returning wide receiver. Last season, he caught 54 passes for 590 yards and scored three touchdowns.
He was also a major weapon on special teams as a kick return specialist. Freeman ranked sixth in the country in kick returns last season, setting a school record with an average of 17.3 yards per return.
With Freeman sidelined, Washington State will need other players to step up in the passing game. Receivers Darrius Clemons, Daniel Blood, and Branden Ganashamoorthy are all expected to see more targets.
Defensive Injury Updates
The Cougars are dealing with several other injuries on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive end Michael Hughes is expected to miss a couple of weeks. Hughes suffered a knee injury during last week's loss to Kansas State.
There is some good news for the defense, however. Starting cornerbacks Jalil Tucker and Khamari Terrell are both expected to return to the field on Saturday against Duquesne.
Tucker was out with an undisclosed injury, while Terrell missed time due to a concussion. Neither cornerback played in the game against Kansas State, but their return will provide a boost for the secondary.
