British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney were in the stands on Wednesday to watch Everton beat Wolves in the Carabao Cup. The two leaders, who are both lifelong Everton supporters, watched the match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool.

The pair also held a bilateral meeting at the stadium. This political meeting happened during a busy week, after Canada was invited to become the first associate member of the European Union by European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen. Carney has stated he wants a unique alliance with the EU.

Late Drama and Legend's Praise

On the pitch, Wolves put up a tough fight in the third round cup tie. The deadlock was finally broken in the 80th minute when Charly Alcaraz scored for Everton. The late goal secured the victory and set up a fourth round clash against Newcastle United.

Former Everton legend Tim Cahill was also at the stadium to watch the action with the two Prime Ministers. He shared a photo on Instagram with Burnham, praising the evening. The night was also deeply emotional for the British Prime Minister. Before the match started, a tribute was shown to Burnham's father, Roy Burnham, who passed away earlier in the week.

The message displayed on the big screen at the stadium read, "RIP Roy Burnham. Lifelong, diehard blue, much loved by Eileen, Nick, Andy, John and all the family."
