Xabi Alonso asks for patience over Chelsea winger Estêvão
Chelsea coach Xabi Alonso insists 19 year old winger Estêvão will get his chance despite playing only 172 minutes so far this season.

Alonso asks for patience with Estêvão
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has urged patience regarding teenage winger Estêvão, insisting that the youngster will get his opportunity as the campaign moves forward. The 19 year old Brazil international has seen very little action this term, accumulating a total of just 172 minutes on the pitch.
The young player remained on the bench as an unused substitute during Chelsea's loss on penalties to Liverpool in Wednesday's Carabao Cup quarterfinal. Since Alonso took charge, Estêvão has featured in the starting lineup for just two matches.
Coach addresses limited game time
Alonso addressed the winger's current situation during his post match news conference following the penalty shootout defeat. He admitted that the Brazil international is keen to get back on the pitch and play a larger part in the team.
"I understand his situation and that he could be happier for sure," Alonso said when asked about the player's lack of minutes. "Every player wants to play, wants to be part of the team. We have had some intense games and there will be moments for everything. I'm sure Este will have his moment. It's my responsibility and we need to deal with that."
Recent history and upcoming fixture
Estêvão is working to regain his spot after experiencing mixed fortune in recent months. He missed out on representing his country at the 2026 World Cup because of a hamstring injury.
Before that setback, he enjoyed a productive year under managers Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior. He recorded 12 Premier League starts last season and scored eight goals across all competitions.
Chelsea now turn their focus back to league action on Saturday, when they host Manchester United.
