Neville Urges Glazers to Exit Completely

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has publicly told the Glazer family that the time has come to sell their entire stake in the football club. Neville stated that enough is enough as United endure their worst start to a Premier League campaign.

The team has also struggled in European competition, losing two of their first three Champions League matches this season. Manager Michael Carrick is under growing pressure as United prepare for a tough away match against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Glazers originally took control of Manchester United in 2005 through a controversial takeover. Although they sold a minority stake to Sir Jim Ratcliffe in 2024, they remain majority owners. Neville believes that setup is failing and wants them to leave entirely.

Mounting Debt and Problems Off the Pitch

Speaking on Stick to Football on Disney+, Neville highlighted the serious financial issues surrounding the club. He noted that United currently carry £1.2 billion in debt, which severely limits what the club can do.

Neville pointed out that United have spent £1.4 billion on players over the past 15 years. That figure places United second in overall spending, just behind rivals Manchester City. However, much of that spending was structured on future payments.

The former captain was sharp in his criticism of the ownership. He noted that the Glazer family lives in Tampa, Florida, where they attend NFL games regularly, yet they have barely stepped foot inside Old Trafford in over twenty years. He criticized the decision to subcontract football operations to INEOS after three straight years of poor results.

In addition, Neville targeted the stadium situation. United have not spent money on Old Trafford, yet the owners are now attempting to borrow £2 billion for a new stadium without a clear plan on how to borrow it. After 13 or 14 years of failure on the football side, Neville insists that fans have had enough and the Glazers must go now.
