Giannis Calls for Trust After Heat Suffer Opening Night Rout
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 35 points in his Miami debut, but the Heat fell 131-106 to Minnesota and lacked team chemistry.

Tough Opening Night
The Miami Heat suffered a heavy 131-106 defeat against the Minnesota Timberwolves on opening night. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 35 points and went to the free throw line 14 times in his debut, but he was not satisfied with the team performance. Hundreds of fans showed up early to watch him warm up and chanted MVP early in the game, yet Miami could not sustain the energy.
Antetokounmpo said the group needs to work together through hard moments. "We got to trust each other. When things don't go our way, we got to dig in. We didn't do that tonight," Antetokounmpo said. He added that his own effort must set the tone.
Problems on the Glass and Perimeter
Minnesota pulled away behind their new guard duo of Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball. Edwards scored 45 points while hitting 9 of 17 from beyond the arc. Ball added 21 points, hitting five deep shots as the Timberwolves sank 21 three pointers overall.
Miami struggled to keep pace and shot just 24 percent from three point range. The smaller Minnesota squad also dominated the boards, winning the rebound battle 52 to 34 and grabbing a 17 to 4 edge on the offensive glass. Bam Adebayo, who missed time in the preseason with a minor groin issue, said the team must swarm on defense and avoid getting bored on offense when fatigue sets in.
Building Chemistry
Communication was another clear problem. The Heat are integrating new veterans like Antetokounmpo, Klay Thompson, and Bobby Portis next to Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, and Davion Mitchell. Players admitted the team was not vocal on the court.
Antetokounmpo repeated the word trust at least five times when speaking to reporters. He pointed out that Miami got discouraged once Edwards got hot, stressing that the team needs to become more physical and stay connected rather than folding under pressure.
