Jaxson Dart Forced Out of Monday Night Game Against Rams With Knee Injury

The New York Giants suffered a major setback early in their Monday night matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Second year quarterback Jaxson Dart was forced to leave the game during the very first series after suffering a hard hit to his left knee.

The injury occurred on a third and eight play. Rams linebacker Byron Young pressured Dart from his right side, forcing him toward linebacker Josaiah Stewart. Stewart undercut Dart's legs, sending the young quarterback hard onto the turf. Dart immediately clutched his left knee in pain.

After the hit, Dart was taken to the blue medical tent for an evaluation by the team's medical staff. He later emerged from the tent and walked with a visible limp as he headed back to the locker room. The Giants officially listed him as questionable to return to the game. Before exiting, Dart had completed three of his five passes for 20 yards.

Winston Takes Over

With Dart sidelined, the Giants turned to veteran backup Jameis Winston to lead the offense. Winston entered the game on the ensuing Giants possession, right after the Rams went three and out.

Winston is a highly experienced option for the Giants. He is an eleven year veteran of the league and was originally selected as the number one overall draft pick back in 2015. Over his long career, Winston has played for several teams, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New Orleans Saints, and the Cleveland Browns.

Past Performance in New York

This is not Winston's first time stepping up for the Giants. During the 2025 season, Winston made three appearances and started two games for the team. In those games, he threw for 567 yards, recording two touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Giants will now rely on Winston's extensive experience to guide them through this matchup. The team has not yet provided further details on the severity of Dart's knee injury, and his status for the remainder of the game remains uncertain.
