Luka Doncic Dominates Both Ends in Lakers Victory Over Raptors
Luka Doncic scored 45 points and impressed on defense during the Los Angeles Lakers win against the Toronto Raptors.

Doncic Shines on Defense in Lakers Win
Luka Doncic delivered another massive performance on Sunday, scoring 45 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 131-125 victory over the Toronto Raptors. It marked his third game with at least 40 points over his last four outings. The 27 year old guard currently leads the NBA in scoring with 37.7 points per game.
While his scoring was impressive, his work on defense made the biggest headlines. Doncic grabbed a season high 15 rebounds, all on the defensive end. He also swiped five steals and drew three charges, creating eight total turnovers for Toronto. That made him the first NBA player to record five steals and three charges in a single game since player tracking started in the 2013-14 season.
Praise From Teammates and Coaches
Doncic drew praise from both locker rooms after the game. Lakers center Walker Kessler, acquired in the offseason to boost a defense that finished 20th in the league in 2025-26, expressed amazement at his teammate. Kessler called the stat line incredible and said Doncic does not get enough credit for his defense.
Lakers coach JJ Redick pointed to the charges Doncic took against Toronto players RJ Barrett and Scottie Barnes as examples of leadership. Redick noted that taking a charge puts a player's body on the line for the team and shows true competitiveness. Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic also credited Doncic, stating that he came back in great shape, looked healthy, and was outstanding.
Pride and Leadership on the Floor
When told of the positive remarks, Doncic smiled and said, "Finally." He acknowledged taking only a handful of charges during his six and a half seasons with the Dallas Mavericks before committing more to that tactic in Los Angeles. Doncic noted that three charges in one game is not bad and helps get the whole team fired up.
Sandro Mamukelashvili added 11 points off the bench against his former team. He praised Doncic for having the pride and hunger to avoid being labeled as a defender opponent teams can simply attack.
