Osimhen leads Galatasaray to derby victory

Victor Osimhen warned of chaos before Monday's Istanbul derby, and it arrived right after the final whistle. The Nigeria striker scored both goals in Galatasaray's 2-1 victory over Fenerbahce at RAMS Park.

Osimhen put the hosts ahead in the 29th minute after exchanging passes with Baris Alper Yilmaz. He scored his second in the 44th minute by heading in a long throw from Ismail Jakobs. In between those strikes, Osimhen forced a save from Ederson after running onto a pass from Aleksey Batrakov. Irfan Can Kahveci pulled a goal back for Fenerbahce in the 62nd minute, but Galatasaray held on to win the first league meeting between the rivals this season.

Late trouble spoils the final whistle

Celebrations were accompanied by field confrontations as soon as the game ended. Fenerbahce player Archie Brown and Galatasaray player Abdulkerim Bardakci were among those involved, while others tried to separate them.

Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk said he wished these things did not happen because the match itself went by cleanly. Buruk noted that losing players often express tension at the end of matches, but stated that these things are part of football. He added that the necessary penalties regarding the incident will be given.

Building chemistry with Batrakov

The victory took Osimhen's tally to five goals in six appearances against Fenerbahce. He remains unbeaten in those games, with four wins and two draws.

Osimhen praised Batrakov after the match, explaining that he watched the midfielder's previous games at former clubs to learn how to anticipate his passes. Batrakov joined Galatasaray from Lokomotiv Moscow in August on a five year contract. Osimhen said Batrakov brings good vibes to the dressing room and has impressed everyone during his two months at the club.
