Historic Comeback in San Francisco

Stephen Curry scored 31 points to guide the Golden State Warriors to a 112-95 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers late Friday night. Golden State pulled off a rare feat by trailing by 25 points before winning by at least 17 points. No team in the past 30 seasons had accomplished that.

Luka Doncic started fast for the Lakers, scoring 21 points and adding five assists in the first quarter to put Los Angeles up 38-15. The Lakers eventually extended their lead to 25 points early in the second quarter.

Bench Support and Curry Magic

The Warriors fought back while Doncic rested on the bench. Reserve players Georges Niang and De'Anthony Melton combined for 27 points, hitting several second quarter 3 pointers. Curry added eight points and three assists in that late first half stretch, helping Golden State tie the score at halftime with a 38-15 second quarter of their own. That 23 point deficit at the end of the first quarter was the largest ever overcome by halftime in the shot clock era.

Curry took over in the second half, scoring eight points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth. The signature play happened when Curry isolated Doncic, executed a dribble move that caused Doncic to slip to the floor, and hit a 3 pointer. Brandin Podziemski also chipped in 21 points and six assists for Golden State.

Rookie Struggles and Bouncing Back

Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg struggled for Golden State after exchanging words with Doncic in previous days. Lendeborg picked up two early fouls, finishing with six points, six fouls, and five turnovers. He called it the worst game of his life. Doncic scored 37 points for the Lakers in the loss.

The Warriors have now won three straight games after starting the season with three straight losses. Head coach Steve Kerr noted that large deficits happen regularly in the league now due to pace and 3 point shooting.
