Red Card and Ban Details

Napoli have confirmed they will appeal a two match ban handed to manager Massimiliano Allegri following Saturday's 3-3 draw against Roma. The 59 year old manager received a straight red card in the closing stages of the match after Leonardo Balerdi equalised for Roma. Allegri believed Balerdi committed a foul on Sam Beukema during the build up to the goal and reacted angrily when the goal stood.

Lega Serie A officially confirmed the punishment on Sunday. The league stated that Allegri directed an insulting remark at match officials in the 45th minute of the second half. It added that he made a disrespectful remark to the same officials in the dressing room area and showed an aggressive attitude toward a Roma staff member. These incidents were reported by the referee, the fourth official, and collaborators from the Federal Prosecutor's Office.

Fines and Napoli's Response

In addition to missing two matches, Allegri received a fine of €10,000, which is around £8,382. As it stands, the suspension rules him out of Napoli's upcoming Serie A away fixtures against Monza on Wednesday and Juventus on Sunday.

Napoli acted quickly by publishing a statement on their website. The club confirmed that after requesting access to the relevant documents, they will lodge an official appeal against the decision.

Allegri Defends His Actions

Speaking after the match, Allegri strongly disputed the reason for his dismissal. He said, "The fourth official called the referee and got me sent off, but I said absolutely nothing." The manager mentioned that he paid €80,000 in fines last season and suggested he might have to sit on the bench without moving in future games to avoid further punishment.

Allegri also pointed out perceived double standards on the touchline, noting that other coaches run onto the pitch without being punished while he faces penalties whenever he moves. Despite his frustration, he thanked the fourth official and praised his players for their performance during the match.
