Ole Miss celebrated a sweet 32-24 win over former coach Lane Kiffin and LSU, but Pete Golding insists the Rebels have much bigger goals this season.
No Super Bowl Celebrations
Ole Miss got their revenge on Saturday with a 32-24 victory over LSU and former head coach Lane Kiffin. The win in Oxford sparked a massive celebration, but Ole Miss coach Pete Golding is already trying to quiet the noise. He wants his players to focus on the long season ahead.
Golding made it clear that beating LSU was never the ultimate goal. He told his team that nobody came to Ole Miss just to beat this opponent. While he admitted the victory was sweet, he emphasized that it was not their Super Bowl. "It wasn't our Super Bowl, and we didn't make it out to be our Super Bowl," Golding said.
After starting the 2026 season with a 3-0 record and winning two playoff games last season, the Rebels have high expectations. Golding noted that the standard has changed. "Since 2023, we feel like it's a failure if you're not winning 10 games," Golding said. He believes the standard should be a national championship.
Chambliss Shines in Emotional Battle
The game was highly emotional, especially for quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. He starred in the win, throwing for 363 yards and two touchdowns. He also led the offense on a go-ahead scoring drive with 6:14 left in the game.
During the game, Chambliss was seen looking toward the LSU sideline after his touchdowns. He explained that it was not a slight against Kiffin, but rather the reaction of a competitor in a high-stakes matchup.
After the final whistle, Chambliss celebrated with the student section and stared at the scoreboard. He admitted that this game meant more than others because of the coaches and players who left Ole Miss for LSU. "This one meant a lot more than other games," Chambliss said. He also expressed frustration with how the nation views Ole Miss, noting that people often disrespect the program when comparing its facilities and fan base to LSU.
Injury Update and Looking Ahead
The victory did come with a setback on the injury front. Ole Miss tailback Kewan Lacy left the game early in the third quarter with a shoulder injury.
Golding shared that Lacy's X-rays were negative, and the running back even suited up with the intention of returning to the field. However, he was held out, with JT Lindsey carrying the load instead. Lacy will be evaluated this week to see if he can play against Florida in Week 4.
Kiffin previously stated he left Ole Miss for LSU to chase a national title. However, Saturday's result suggests his former school might be closer to that goal right now.
