Trinidad Chambliss passed for 363 yards and scored the winning touchdown to lead No. 8 Ole Miss past No. 7 LSU in Lane Kiffin's return.
Chambliss Shines Against His Former Coach
Lane Kiffin returned to Oxford on Saturday night, but his new LSU team could not stop the quarterback he helped build. Trinidad Chambliss, whom Kiffin recruited to Ole Miss from a Division II school last year, put on a show to guide the eighth ranked Rebels to a 32-24 win over seventh ranked LSU.
Chambliss threw for 363 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for the tiebreaking score in the fourth quarter to send the home crowd into a frenzy. Ole Miss has now defeated LSU in consecutive seasons, with Chambliss starring in both games.
Rebels Build Early Lead Before Tigers Rally
Ole Miss jumped out to a 17-0 lead early in the game. Kewan Lacy scored on a 5 yard power run through the middle of the line, and Chambliss found Traylon Ray for a 21 yard touchdown pass. Ray finished the night with seven catches for 115 yards. Just before halftime, Chambliss threw a 20 yard touchdown pass to Deuce Alexander, giving Ole Miss a comfortable 24-7 lead.
LSU did not back down. The Tigers fought back in the second half, starting with a 2 yard run by Dilin Jones. Sam Leavitt then scored on a run after surviving a hard hit on a scramble that flipped him upside down. Leavitt finished with 153 passing yards and 63 rushing yards. He threw a 26 yard touchdown pass to Winston Watkins Jr. to cut the lead, and a field goal eventually tied the game at 24-24.
Ole Miss Seals the Victory
With top running back Kewan Lacy out due to a left shoulder injury, Chambliss took over. He directed a 75 yard drive, capping it with a 14 yard touchdown run where he outran LSU safety Ty Benefield to the pylon. A direct snap to JT Lindsey on a two point conversion put Ole Miss up 32-24 with 6:14 left.
LSU had one last chance and drove to the Ole Miss 6 yard line. On fourth down, Leavitt's pass deflected off defensive end Kam Franklin. Jaylon Braxton intercepted the ball in the end zone to secure the win.
