Suns Add Frontcourt Depth

The Phoenix Suns are making a move to bolster their frontcourt. The team is signing center Duop Reath to a contract to help shore up their roster. This move comes as the team looks to fill a sudden gap in their active lineup.

The Suns needed extra depth after losing center Mark Williams. Williams is expected to miss several months of action. He is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, leaving the team thin at the center position for the foreseeable future.

Reath's Portland Years

Reath is a 30 year old big man who brings some solid experience to Phoenix. He has spent his entire three year NBA career playing for the Portland Trail Blazers. He originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent back in 2023.

The Blazers initially signed him to a deal and later converted it to a standard NBA contract. This conversion happened in the middle of what was a breakout rookie season for the center. During that first year, Reath averaged 9.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

Recent Trades and Waivers

Despite his strong start, Reath saw his playing time decrease over the next two seasons. His stint with Portland ended in February when the Blazers traded him to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Hawks subsequently waived him shortly after the trade. This move made him a free agent, allowing the Suns to step in and secure his services for their frontcourt.

The Phoenix Rotation

The addition of Reath gives Phoenix some much needed coverage. With Williams out for a long stretch of time, the Suns have to find ways to fill those frontcourt minutes.

The Suns frontcourt also features Khaman Maluach. Phoenix selected Maluach with the number 10 overall pick in the NBA draft last year. Reath will now join the rookie in the frontcourt rotation.

This signing gives the Suns another big man who has proven he can produce in the league. Phoenix fans will watch closely to see how the rotation shapes up now that Reath is on the roster.
