Terrifying Park Attack

Former Premier League winger Jermaine Pennant needed more than 50 stitches in his leg after being attacked by a dog in a north London park. The incident occurred while Pennant was walking his American Akita, named King, off its lead.

When another dog approached, Pennant stepped in to protect his pet, which led to the German shepherd turning on him instead. Pennant fell to the floor, and the attacking dog held onto his leg with heavy pressure for at least five seconds with no sign of letting go.

Saved By His Pet

Pennant described the moment his own dog intervened to save him. King fought off the attacking dog and stayed right by his owner's side until help arrived at the scene. Pennant later shared details on social media, calling his pet a hero who saved his life. He noted that if King had been a smaller dog, there would have been no chance.

King ended up with a small nip on his leg and was covered in blood, but was otherwise unhurt. Pennant suffered four bite marks on his right leg. Despite being in severe pain, he took an Uber to the hospital to receive medical treatment for his injuries.

Career In Top Flight Football

Now 43 years old, Pennant spent many years playing at the highest level of English football. He is most notably remembered for his spells with Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League.

During his career, he also represented Leeds United, Birmingham City, Portsmouth, and Stoke. Outside of England, he played in Spain's LaLiga for Villarreal.
